Halloween, celebrated on October 31st every year, is a festival that originated from the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain, which marked the end of the harvest season and the beginning of winter a time the Celts associated with death. They believed that on the night of October 31st, the boundary between the living and the dead blurred, allowing spirits to roam the earth.
When Christianity spread, the festival was merged with All Saints’ Day (All Hallows’ Day) on November 1st. The evening before became known as All Hallows’ Eve, which eventually evolved into Halloween.
Today, Halloween is widely celebrated around the world especially in the United States, Canada, and parts of Europe as a fun and spooky occasion. People dress up in costumes (often inspired by monsters, witches, vampires, or pop culture), carve pumpkins into jack-o’-lanterns, decorate their homes, and children go trick-or-treating for candy.
It’s a blend of ancient traditions, folklore, and modern fun, bringing together creativity, fear, and festivity in one magical night.
